More than just an accountant….
Julius Masaba joined the young and energetic but small consulting team at Inachee in early 2014 as Business Associate and later Research Associate towards the end of 2017.
He has over five (5) years’ experience in business/investment research, business in general and turn-around advisory. As Associate, he prepared monthly management accounts and financial reports, financial analysis, undertook internal controls reviews and implementation for business turn-around, and back-end client relationship management. He also did a short stint in office administration.
Julius also has exposure to preparing and reviewing feasibility studies, undertaking due diligence, value-for-money audits, business plan/project proposal preparation and review, doing tax computation (VAT, WHT, PAYE, etc.) of review of other technical documents.
He has also been exposed to Angel Investment and similar Venture Capitalist processes having worked with Kampala Angel Investment Network (KAIN) as Business Analyst for six (6) months. He was involved in startup/entrepreneur (and investor) recruitment, analysis of startup applications, evaluation of pitch deck/business plans, organizing and coordinating events/meetups, preparing deal book/investment memo, event materials and investment working documents, entrepreneur and investor communication, among other roles.
In the second quarter of 2019, he was sub-contracted by WREM Inc. (USA) for the social, environmental and economic evaluation and financial analysis (BCR, IRR, ROI) of Government of Tanzania’s capital projects in the Ruaha River National Park geared towards preservation of water in the park; for Phase 1 (Construction of Underground Water Reservoirs in the four (4) regions of Ngalambula, Igohungila, Ikowoka and Illalangulu) and Phase 1 (Construction of two (2) Boreholes and Watering Troughs at Mdonya River and Mbagi Breakfast Point, both in the Park).
His few diverse experiences enable him to be flexible as much as possible. His accounting background with clients he has worked on, the business advisory, the field research exposure in various industries and sectors has given him a “well rounded” view of business. Therefore, such exposure does not just make him sound like an “a business graduate who doesn’t understand business and its related spheres.”
Julius has worked with a diverse set of clients in sectors including; agriculture, agro-processing/agribusiness, commercial poultry, mining/stone quarrying, construction/engineering, pharmacy, fintech, education, services (alarm security, air freight), FMCGs and other Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) in Uganda.
He currently undertakes monthly consulting visits to a local spices processing company in Central Uganda since January 2019, after successfully preparing USD11,111 and USD27,000 finance winning business plans in the same year. He also sits on the founding team and as Business Development Lead of a technology creatives’ startup in Kampala.
Julius holds a First Class (Hons) Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, specializing in both accounting and finance, from Uganda Christian University. He also holds a Masters of Business Administration of Uganda Martyrs University.
“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.” ~ Robert Anson Heinlein
